For those of you who don’t know me very well, I’m an advocate for sustainability! I became vegan last Thanksgiving after watching Cowspiracy and have recently agreed to take the Plastic Free July challenge! Click on the links for more interesting information on how you can make a positive impact on our planet! Alone we are a drop, together an ocean! There are a ton of really cool things happening in Vancouver, The Soap Dispensary for example, has everything you need for refilling food, household, and beauty products, reusable things, and awesome customer service. They’re really doing a good thing in town. Balance Botanicals is another sweet spot for spices, teas, dried goods to buy in bulk- just bring your reused glass jars or fabric bags! I could go on, but I have to leave for work, gonna try biking today, wish me luck!

Had the ultimate pleasure of playing Car Free Day in my very own neighbourhood! I’ve been a Main Street dweller since I was 5 years old. Thanks to my girl Noelani KeAloha for joining me on percussion and vocals, and thanks to Emily Best for joining our post-show fun! The three of us are in a band together, keep an ear out for some soulful electro tunes!

‘Retrograde’ Best R&B/Soul Song 2016 – Akademia Music Awards

June 19, 2016

Excited to be recognized internationally! Here’s what they had to say:

‘Slow-paced but mesmerizingly intense, ‘Retrograde’ is endowed with the kind of fervor for love many crave but so few actually attain – Kristie McCracken will certainly be one of them.’

Kicking off 2016 with Khari McClelland in ‘Freedom Singers’

February 20, 2016

IMG_8588

On Tuesday January 19th, I had the absolute pleasure of performing as backing vocalist for Khari McClelland of Vancouver-based gospel group The Sojourners in his CBC Toque Sessions Concert ‘Freedom Singers’ at the CBC Vancouver Broadcast Centre. The concert included resurrected songs from the underground railroad in the mid 1800s in which Khari’s great great great grandmother traveled, as well as original songs off of his new album. Joining me were Dawn Pemberton, Juhli Connlin, Karina Morin, Willie Sanders, Marcus Mosely, Noah Walker, Ron Becker, John Naham, and Tyson Naylor.

Victoria Ska Fest 2015

July 28, 2015

This write up warmed my heart!

“Over the past few years, few vocalists have made as big an impression in the Vancouver reggae scene as Kristie McCracken. For many years McCracken worked as a backing singer with Natural Flavas, a project that not only played original tunes, but also acted as a backing band for various reggae vocalists such as Tanya Stephens, Ken Boothe, and Leeroy Sibbles during their tenure. She is also the co-frontwoman of The Ponderosas, whose soulful take on r&b and reggae has earned them praise across western Canada.”Victoria BC Ska Society
